About the project

SAKUMON is an adventure and creature-collecting game that brings the Toys-to-Life concept to life through interactions between mobile devices and NFC chips embedded in physical Saku figures, which are available through the project's official website.

NFC Scan System

I built an NFC handler component, bridging Digits NFC package and the existing systems in the project. This supported an easy plug-and-play listener approach for NFC chips, so players could scan their sakumons, and attain the unique characters in the game.

Unity Cloud Services

I connected and managed multiple services from Unity Cloud that improved both players' and developers' experience. Examples are Matchmaker, Vivox, Player Authentication, Cloud Save, Friends, Build Automation, Cloud Code, Triggers, and more.

Patterned Data Architecture

Refactored the project's data architecture around ScriptableObjects, internal databases and stable unique IDs, establishing a common foundation for persistence, multiplayer synchronization and rewards.

Cutscenes

I created stylized cutscenes for dramatic events in the game such as obtaining a starter and scanning a new monster. Integrated with well known systems in Unity such as Cinemachine, Shaders, and Particle System.

Multiplayer

I built the foundational logic for multiplayer matches through Host/Client topology and Unity Netcode for Game Objects. It ended up being used for Casual minigames and multiplayer sessions over friends islands.

Authentication

I built and implemented every step for a complete authentication cycle, including login/sign-up with Apple/Google accounts. The whole system bridges Firebase as an OAuth broker between the supported account types, Unity Cloud Accounts and all the respective services, including Unity Cloud Save.
